The City of Lewisville City Council to recognizes
Rotary International, and the Lewisville Morning and Lewisville Noon Rotary Clubs
by Proclaiming Oct 20th through Oct 26th as End Polio Week in Lewisville
and Oct 24th as World Polio Day

At the October 21st, 7 pm Lewisville City Council meeting, council proclaimed the week of Oct 20 through Oct 26 as End Polio Week in Lewisville in honor of Rotary and World Polio Day which is celebrated internationally on October 24, 2019.  Members from both clubs celebrated the event prior at Alkey's Lounge and Eatery with food, beverages, fun and End Polio Now challenges between club leaders.
Both clubs have a great history of supporting Rotary International's 30 year effort to eradicate polio world wide. Last year District 5790 awarded each club with an End Polio Banner recognizing that 100% of their membership donated at least $25.

Master of Ceremonies John Solerno (from M.A.D. Radio) kicked off the celebration by introducing our challenger games, our challengers and encouraging all present to donate to End Polio forever by purchasing End Polio Now stickers in honor of their favorite challenger from their favorite club. Members prominently displayed their stickers (think I voted) as their challenger attempts to win the challenge.

The festivities included 3 challenges:
  1. Club Presidents Challenge - Lewisville Morning Rotary Club President Tom Rowe challenged Lewisville Noon Club President John Kazor at Corn Hole. Lewisville Noon past president Steve Cox filled in for John who was unable to make the event. Steve ultimately beat Tom Rowe in the Corn Hole challenge winning a certificate and 4 ears of corn because every president needs at least 2 good ears to be successful in that roll.
  2. Councilman Challenge - City Councilman and Lewisville Morning Rotary member Bob Troyer beat his challenger retired Police Chief Russ Kerbow who was filling in for Councilman TJ Gilmore at the pong challenge. For his effort Bob won a certificate and and a torpedo can of Voodoo beer in recognition of his magical expertise in beer pong (without the beer).
  3. Police department representatives squared off in the Dart Challenge. Assistant Police Chief Todd Taylor beat Police Chief Kevin Deaver in a closely contested match. For his efforts, Todd won a box of day old donuts and a certificate to hang in office.
Following the 3 concurrent challenges, John Solerno introduced Rotary District 5790 Governor Peter Scott who will say a few words about Rotary's Challenge of eliminating polio world wide in the remaining 2 endemic countries Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Congratulations to club members in Lewisville and throughout the world. We have achieved 99+% of our goal.
But, we will not stop until Polio is 100% eradicated world wide.

In preparation for the End Polio Proclamation, Rotary members John Kazor (Lewisville Noon Rotary), Marilyn and John Pokorny (Lewisville Morning Rotary) had the privilege of being interviewed on Internet Radio by M.A.D Radio's John Solerno and Magen King on October 2nd to discuss Rotary's End Polio efforts in general and the activities our two Rotary clubs are doing in particular.
