Our club and its members will be participating in opening cerem onies May 2nd with a Flag Retirement Ceremony. Members will also be erect ing flags at the site\, volunteer with other community groups to erect th e and disassemble the wall\, volunteer with oth other community groups to provide support and security during the event and provide a 2nd Flag Ret irement Ceremony on Sunday May 5th. The traveling exhibit honors the more than 3 million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Vietnam War and it bears the names of the more than 58\,000 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam. The Wall That Heals exhibit will be open to the public 24 hours a day and will be accompanied by the Mobile Education Center. Lewisville is one of three Texas tour stops in 2 019 for The Wall That Heals\, but it is the only North Texas tour stop. T he three-quarter scale Wall replica is made up of 140 numbered panels and stands 375 feet long and 7.5 feet tall. Like the original Memorial\, The Wall That Heals is erected in a chevron-shape and visitors can do name r ubbings of individual service member’s names on The Wall. The Mobile Educ ation Center is the 53-foot trailer that carries The Wall That Heals arou nd the country. The exterior of the trailer features a timeline of “The W ar and The Wall” and provides additional information about the Vietnam Ve terans Memorial in Washington\, D.C. Additional exhibits give visitors a better understanding of the legacy of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and t he collection of items left at The Wall.
