Hearts for Homes
Aug 29, 2019 7:00 AM
Director and founder of Hearts for Homes, a nonprofit Christian outreach, providing home rehabilitation affording low-income seniors in Denton, TX, a safe, well-functioning home. In 2006, Susan Frank founded Hearts for Homes to fulfill a calling to help senior homeowners in her community of Denton, Texas, who could not afford to repair their dilapidated houses. The former private school teacher/coach/administrator has rallied plumbers, roofers, builders, electricians, and a virtual army of gracious volunteers to share in her vision to help older, low-income residents repair their homes in order to provide them a safe, comfortable home to age in place. Hearts for Homes has made significant repairs to hundreds of family homes since its inception and made a huge impact on the lives of these seniors in need. Susan has received numerous accolades and awards for her work including the 2014 National Public Citizen of the Year from the National Association of Social Workers and 2016 Health Services of North Texas Richard Sale Award. The City of Denton even named February 14, Susan Frank Day, in her honor. However, the most precious gift to Susan is seeing the stress and worry of a Hearts for Homes senior melt away to reveal a smile of true appreciation, relief and gratitude because he or she feels heard, cared for and blessed by the kindness and effort of staff and volunteers engaged in this vital mission. |
