The Rotary Membership Committee consisting of Co-Chair Brent Myers, Co-Chair Mary Jones, member Naomi Lewis, member Tom Atchison and member John Pokorny has been very busy developing this years growth and retention plans. We are evaluating a broad spectrum of ideas to grow our club to 40 members by June of 2017. Some ideas are long range requiring evaluation and time to implement. Others are very easy to implement. For example, we have identified some very specific vocations our club needs to round out our member profile.
For the remainder of August and all of September, we are encouraging all club members to identify and invite legal professional and or an accounting professional to one of our meetings. Members that bring someone from these professions will be awarded additional tickets to our weekly 50/50 raffle. These tickets will increase their odds of having the opportunity to draw the winning card from the deck that will give them 50% of the pot that has been building up these past few weeks from folks contributing to the 50/50 raffle.
The Lewisville Morning Rotary Foundation Committee has been busy planning this years activities. We have a goal to raise Annual Fund Donations to the Foundation of $4000. These are the funds that are ultimately invested by the Foundation and the interest from the donations raised during the next 3 years are used for local projects such as our dictionary project. After 3 years, those funds are use for Global Grants such as the TEACH project our club is doing in partnership with the Rotary Club of Nasik in India.
Another successful Household Hazardous Waste Project organized by Lewisville Morning Rotary members in partnership with the City of Lewisville. Thank you Howard, Todd, John, Frank, George, Bob, Terry and those 165 Lewisville residents for keeping that waste out of the landfill, sewers and streams. We emptied 125 vehicles of mostly liquid household waste and city employees emptied another 40 vehicles with electronic waste. Ultimately, all that waste was sorted, packaged and shipped to various city vendors that will recycle that waste in some fashion.
September 17, 2016 is our Lewisville Morning Rotary Club Annual Flag Retirement Ceremony on Ferguson Plaza (in the grassy area near the main stage).
This years theme is Honoring our Vietnam veterans and will include participation by local boy scouts, girl scouts and the Lewisville Police Honor Guard. The Lewisville Morning Rotary Club Event Chair Frank Hebb is working with club members and the community to prepare for this very moving ceremony honor our flag and the veterans that have dedicated themselves to protecting our great country.
Well gang, we did it again. During our last drive in July we, in partnership with the Global Embassy folks scored some outstanding results. 159 LIVES SAVED! See the thank you letter below from Carter's Susan Holt. Let's not rest on our laurels though, we have another blood drive coming up August 27, And as you will know, August 27th will be a very busy day for Lewisville Morning Rotarians. Some of us will be attending the District 5790 Foundation and Membership Seminar in Weatherford, some of us will be serving the communities needy at the CCA Food pantry and the rest of us will be either donating blood or recruiting mall strollers to join us in donating. Please see me to sign up for a slot to manage the Blood Drive Donor table.
