Peace Officers Memorial Day - 2021
Some interesting facts about Police Officers Memorial Day
Police Officers Memorial Day is a holiday intended to pay tribute to law enforcement officers who have been injured while on duty or have been killed while on duty. The holiday is always celebrated May 15th to commemorate federal, state, county and local law officers.
Police Officers Memorial Day began in 1961 when the 87th U.S Congress authorized the President of the United States to designate May 15th as a day on which to honor law enforcement officers. On October 1, 1961, then President John F. Kennedy signed the bill into law. In 1994, Public Law 103-322 directed that the American flag be flown at half-stay when it’s observed on this holiday.
While our subscribers do not have the ability to fly our flags at half staff, they can fasten a black ribbon at the top of the flag on May 15th. Flag Etiquette designates this as the method in lieu of half staff for flags displayed on a staff that cannot be lowered.

If you would like to encourage friends and neighbors to become subscribers to the Lewisville Area Flags, you can request a Love My Flag sign to be installed next to your flag.
Click here to request a Love My Flag yard sign and we will bring it out prior to Memorial Day.
