Headed to the Rotary Convention in São Paulo this June? Get excited. Your upcoming experience is being organized by an award-winning meetings and events team from Rotary International. Last year's convention in Sydney was recognized recently with several industry awards at the Meeting and Events Australia's prestigious annual NSW Awards Night. As winner of the major NSW award,...

In the Esmeraldas Province of Ecuador, Rotary members have teamed up with a microfinance organization to provide small loans to poor women, teaching them to sew and bake so they can start or expand businesses. The Rotary Club of Marin Evening, in California, USA, reached out to 64 Rotary clubs in seven districts including Ecuador's, to raise money, find support from partners, and mobilize local community members for a global grant project. Keith Axtell, a member of the Marin Evening club, says the effort began in 2005-06, when his wife, Holly, was district governor and was looking for an...

An increase to the Council on Legislation dues goes into effect in July, and it will be reflected on the July club invoice. The Rotary International Board of Directors approved the increase from $1 to $1.50 in October 2014. The Council, which meets every three years, will meet 10-15 April in Chicago. The Council considers proposals to change RI's constitutional documents and resolutions that express an opinion or make a recommendation to the Board. RI's Bylaws, which govern the relationship between Rotary International and Rotary clubs, can be changed only by legislation by the Council. The...

When it comes to Rotary, Mitty Chang is practically a lifer – and he's only 26. Chang joined Interact 10 years ago in Fremont, Calif., where almost a quarter of the 2,000 students at his high school were Interactors. He went on to organize two Rotaract clubs. Now an entrepreneur who works with small businesses and nonprofits to build their online identity and brand, he plans to become a Rotarian within the next few years. "I expect to have a long life in Rotary," he says. We caught up with Chang at the 2014 Rotary convention in Sydney, Australia, to find out what being a member of the Rotary...

February is Peace & Conflict Prevention/Resolution Month

As Rotarians we value the efforts of those committed to making our world a more peaceful place to live. Achieving peace in todays society begins with sincere recognition of the needs of all of it's members. Compassion will further peace when when we help the less fortunate achieve their needs.

Stories
Lewisville Morning Rotary achieving it's Goals

In the Spring of 2014 then President Elect, Bob Troyer submitted his goals for the 2014-2015 Rotary Year. A recent check of the Rotary.org to measure our progress so far this year shows we are doing very well.

But, there is still more to do...
As the graph shows we still have not made our club goal. We need to have 4 new members before June 30th to achieve the goal Bob has established for our club. Ask your friends, Ask your neighbors. Invite them to a meeting...it is up to us!
Nothing happens if we don't invite folks to our meetings.

Also, the graph does not reflect the most recent Foundation donations made by members for the most recent quarter. With that donation and the one to be made in April we will be right on track with our Foundation Goal.
Our goal includes 2 new benefactors in the 2014-15 Rotary Year. So far we have 1 new benefactor thanks to Mary.
On Monday February 16, 2014, Lewisville Morning Rotarians, Lewisville High School Interactors and Hebron High School Interactors recognized the vocation of teaching by serving breakfast to over 220 teachers and staff at Hebron High School and 110 teachers and staff at Central ES.

Special Recognition as Honorary Rotarians was awarded to...
Elizabeth Harrison, Head Librarian at Hebron High School
Lindsay Henderson - Teacher at Central ES

The awards were announced at each schools Presidents Day Recognition breakfast. Each was formally inducted into the club as Honorary Members at our February 19th meeting

Melissa Troyer Rowe will be running in the GE Irving Marathon on April 4, 2015. She will be doing the Marathon while pushing her mother (a polio victim) in a buggy. She is doing this to raise money and awareness for the eradication of polio! She has watched her mom's body be wracked by Post Polio Syndrome and would love to see this disease ended. Coincidentally when she pushes her mom's buggy in the marathon Melissa will be the same age her mom was when she first had to use a wheelchair. Please donate if you can!"

Please support Melissa in this race to End Polio Now by clicking here.

Sense & Nonsense

The Shakespeare Seat

My grandparents were taking me on a vacation to Disneyland. Grandma was excited for me when we boarded the plane, she exclaimed that I was lucky, because I got the Shakespeare seat.

"Why is it the Shakespeare seat Grandma?"

"You are in seat 2-B, so it's the Shakespeare seat."

"Don't be silly Grandma. All the seats on an airplane are Shakespeare seats."

"How do you figure that?"

"Well, it's either seat 2-B or not 2-B."
