Memorial Day was our 1st "Flag Program"Holiday of the year. Flag Day (14 June) was the second. On Independacne Day (July 14) we put out 270 flags. We have almost 100 new flag subscriptions. Many kudos' to Brent Myers and Bob Shell who busted their backsides to get the sleeves installed for these new flag locations.
Renewals of flag subscriptions are lagging behind with over 40 residents that have yet to renew their subscriptions. It is not to late for them. They can renew at a prorated rate for the last three holidays.
Please talk to your neighbors and friends in Lewisville (including Castle Hills), Flower Mound and Highland Village. If they have not renewed, encourage them to do so. At this time we are not accepting new subscriptions for this year. Online registration for renewals is always available on our website.
Lewisville Morning Rotary has a rich history of supporting International Service Projects. Currently, we are working with Flower Mound Rotary and several other District 5790 Rotary Clubs to purchase a Tractor for a Farm Orphanage in Nigeria. Our own Carolyn Wright and Bob Troyer have recently applied their expertise to provide solor power and WiFi capabilities to a small village in Ghana that lacks power for their school. In the past we have also provided wheelchairs and water filters for various parts of the world.

May 9, 2015 - Chalk This Way Art Auction
May 9, 2015 - Household Hazardous Waste Collection
Lewisville Morning Rotarians and members of the Lewisville City staff served over 90 residents last Saturday (May 9, 2014)
It was a very busy day for Lewisville Morning Rotary members. Some of whom did double duty setting up the Chalk This Way Art Auction, Eight of us served at Household Hazardous Waste for this monthly Service Project.
Thanks to our Godfather of Household Hazardous Waste Howard O'Neal for organizing this event month after month. This month he was assisted by Mary Hanley-Jones, Todd Taylor, Frank Hebb, George Gober & Dean Davis.
The Weather Outside was Frightful. But the Auction inside was Delightful
Because of the bad weather we only had 30 bidders at our auction. However, the fund raiser was a success. We had over 110 donated items to auction. With the proceeds from the Auction we sponsored the Chalk This Way Scholarship Competition.
Congratulations to the Scholarship winners - 1 Daisy Rosas, 2 Allison Rosenbaum, 3 Sydney Simeone
We will have photo's of these artists and their creations in future additions.
A great big Thank You to the Hebron High School Interact Club for all their assistance in setting up the event. Members Doris Scales, Diana McMillan, Dean Davis, Todd Taylor, Cynthia Jarid, Bob Troyer, Jim Wear, Mary Handley Jones, Frank Hebb, Carolyn Wright, John & Marilyn Pokorny were instrumental in preparing the Wednesday before and the day of the event. Thank You to All
Thanks also to the Lewisville Noon Club for their assistance Saturday and financial participation in Sponsoring the Scholarship. Our sponsorship included a giant chalk Rotary Gear with the Club Names on the City Hall corner of Charles and Church. Unfortunately, the wheel was just finished and immediately washed away by the torrential downpour that morning.
All in all it was a wonderful day. Thank You to Chair Person Marilyn Pokorny and all the ladies of our club for organizing this wonderful event.
Congratulations also to Christi Martin, Chairman of Chalk This Way for a wonderful event. It truly was a Community event that we in Rotary were proud to participate along with the Lewisville Area Arts Alliance and the City of Lewisville.
May 19, 20 & 21 Rotarians from Lewisville Morning, Lewisville Noon and Flower Mound Rotary are participating in the Spring STEM Initiative at Central ES. We are supporting this initiative in partnership with Christian Community Action and the Frisco Science Discovery Museum. Rotarians will be called upon to assist students with the hands-on science experiments such as the bike-generator our club, Flower Mound and Lewisville Noon Rotary Clubs donated. Thanks to the 9 LMR members have participated thus far. If you have time, join us Thursday at Central ES from 9 AM to 2 PM and again in the evening from 6 PM to 7:30 PM.
Answers: Pat Buchanan: To steal a job from a decent, hard-working American. Machiavelli: The point is that the chicken crossed the road. Who cares why? The ends of crossing the road justify whatever motive there was. Thomas de Torquemada: Give me ten minutes with the chicken and I'll find out. Timothy Leary: Because that's the only kind of trip the Establishment would let it take. The Bible: And God came down from the heavens, and He said unto the chicken, "Thou shalt cross the road." And the Chicken crossed the road, and there was much rejoicing. Fox Mulder: It was a government conspiracy. Freud: The fact that you thought that the chicken crossed the road reveals your underlying sexual insecurity. Darwin: Chickens, over great periods of time, have been naturally selected in such a way that they are now genetically predisposed to cross roads. Richard M. Nixon: The chicken did not cross the road. I repeat, the chicken did not cross the road. Oliver Stone: The question is not "Why did the chicken cross the road?" but is rather "Who was crossing the road at the same time whom we overlooked in our haste to observe the chicken crossing?" Jerry Seinfeld: Why does anyone cross a road? I mean, why doesn't anyone ever think to ask, "What the heck was this chicken doing walking around all over the place anyway?" Martin Luther King, Jr.: I envision a world where all chickens will be free to cross roads without having their motives called into question. Dirk Gently (Holistic Detective): I'm not exactly sure why, but right now I've got a horse in my bathroom. Bill Gates: I have just released the new Chicken 2000, which will both cross roads AND balance your checkbook, though when it divides 3 by 2 it gets 1.4999999999. M.C.Escher: That depends on which plane of reality the chicken was on at the time. George Orwell: Because the government had fooled him into thinking that he was crossing the road of his own free will, when he was really only serving their interests. Colonel Sanders: I missed one? Plato: For the greater good. Aristotle: To actualize its potential. Karl Marx: It was a historical inevitability. B.F. Skinner: Because the external influences, which had pervaded its sensorium from birth, had caused it to develop in such a fashion that it would tend to cross roads, even while believing these actions to be of its own freewill. Jean-Paul Sartre: In order to act in good faith and be true to itself, the chicken found it necessary to cross the road. Albert Einstein: Whether the chicken crossed the road or the road crossed the chicken depends upon your frame of reference. The Sphinx: You tell me. Buddha: If you ask this question, you deny your own chicken nature. Emily Dickenson: Because it could not stop for death. Ralph Waldo Emerson: It didn't cross the road; it transcended it. Ernest Hemingway: To die. In the rain. Saddam Hussein: This was an unprovoked act of rebellion and we were quite justified in dropping 50 tons of nerve gas on it. Saddam Hussein #2: It is the Mother of all Chickens. Joseph Stalin: I don't care. Catch it. I need its eggs to make my omelet. Dr. Seuss: Did the chicken cross the road? Did he cross it with a toad? Yes the chicken crossed the road, but why he crossed, I've not been told! O.J.: It didn't. I was playing golf with it at the time.
