Members donate 9 cases of #5 & #6 Diapers for Children served by Loreto House
We are Rotary #MakingaDifference#PeopleofAction. Yesterday, our members received word that Loreto House was in dire need of diapers. Today, thanks to the generosity of our members we filled the back of an SUV and delivered the diapers to their facility in Denton. For more info on Loreto House go to www.loretohouse.org
As a project, this was definitely one of smallest ones. But to quote St. Teresa of Calcutta "Not All Of Us Can Do Great Things, But We Can Do Small Things With Great Love"
So, how should we create awareness for April as Rotary Maternal and Child Health month? Rotarian Audra Johnson suggested we knit or purchase baby products for non-profit agencies that serves children and families. Great idea! Do you have any suggestions? E-mail Jeff Siebert or Ray Bowens with your ideas.
John & Marilyn Pokorny are tapping into Audra's idea by collecting donations of baby products such as diapers, wipes and other such items for Loredo House in Denton. Loredo House serves the needs of women, and men, who are dealing with an unplanned pregnancy. They offer free resources such as: pregnancy test, sonogram, diapers, maternity clothes, baby food and items and parenting classes. Please join them by bringing donations to tomorrow's meeting.
This Hebron High School senior has had an outstanding 4 year experience as a well rounded student with excellent academic credentials, several different volunteer activities and admirable service to her fellow students through her Student Council and Theater Arts involvement.
Mark your calendar for April 14th. That is Household Hazardous Waste Collection day. We need 6 to 8 volunteers to help remove waste from the vehicles of Lewisville residents that have come to properly dispose of their Household Hazardous Waste. This is a wonderful environmental project for club members. If you can volunteer please e-mail Todd Taylor.
Tom Rowe and I recently attended the President Elect Training in order to prepare ourselves to lead our fantastic club. In February the club completed a Visioning process and during the month of April we will be finalizing our Strategic Plan complete with time lines and appointed champions for the next 3 years.
The next very important step is for our club leadership to attend the District 5790 Club Leadership Training Assembly on April 22nd at the Tarrant County College NW campus. We would like as many of our members as possible to attend. In particular, those members that will be serving on the Board of Directors and are committee chairs.
The curriculum will include Club Culture covering a wide range of subjects including membership, public image, strategic plan development and other ways of keeping clubs vibrant. Another core curriculum to be covered is Foundation which will include participation at various donation levels and how to prepare district and global grants. The third curriculum is Rotary Technology including use of Rotary Club Central and all it's tools and use of ClubRunner Tools.
You can register here. The club will register and pay for your registration. Please let me know that you plan to attend as soon as possible.
Cassandra is the Our Community Matters Program Coordinator. The Our Community Matters Program (OCMP) is focused on providing community education and awareness information/events to the often underserved population of African-American victims and survivors of family violence, domestic violence, or dating violence and their children in the Denton County community.
Each ethnicity or race has its own unique personality and inclination (or not) towards the therapeutic and healing process. As service providers, it is our job to recognize these sensitivities as well as any barriers we contribute that might hinder a successful outcome. The OCMP is designed to help discuss these sensitivities and barriers in a genuine and validating way; this program hopes to shine light onto statistics and conversations that are often not discussed. This program can’t thrive without community partnerships and stakeholders such as churches, businesses, schools, etc.
Cassandra would love to tell you more about Denton County Friends of the Family and the Our Community Matters Program.
Lewisville Morning Rotary meets at 7 AM on the 1st, 2nd 3rd Thursday of the month and a 7 PM on the 4th Thursday of the month at Old Town Brewhouse, 146 Whatley Rd, Lewisville, TX
