The Wall that Heals

Lewisville, Texas

May 2nd through May 5th

The Lewisville Morning Rotary Club is proud to announce that we will be participating in the City of Lewisville The Wall That Heals, the mobile three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial (The Wall) in Washington, D.C., will be on display Thursday, May 2 – Sunday, May 5, just west of the Bob Wiseman Soccer Complex at Lewisville Lake Park.

Our club and its members will be participating in opening ceremonies May 2nd with a Flag Retirement Ceremony at 8:30 AM. Our club will volunteer with other community groups to erect the and disassemble the wall, volunteer with other community groups to provide support and security during the event and provide a 2nd Flag Retirement Ceremony on Sunday May 5th at 1:30 pm.

After the initial opening session May 2nd at 8:30 AM, the exhibit will be open around the clock until the closing session at 1:30 pm. We are hopeful that as many of our fellow Rotary members throughout District 5790 and 5810 will join us some time during those 70 hours for his very moving event.

The traveling exhibit honors the more than 3 million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Vietnam War and it bears the names of the more than 58,000 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam.

The Wall That Heals exhibit will be open to the public 24 hours a day and will be accompanied by the Mobile Education Center. Lewisville is one of three Texas tour stops in 2019 for The Wall That Heals, but it is the only North Texas tour stop.

The three-quarter scale Wall replica is made up of 140 numbered panels and stands 375 feet long and 7.5 feet tall. Like the original Memorial, The Wall That Heals is erected in a chevron-shape and visitors can do name rubbings of individual service member’s names on The Wall.

The Mobile Education Center is the 53-foot trailer that carries The Wall That Heals around the country. The exterior of the trailer features a timeline of “The War and The Wall” and provides additional information about the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. Additional exhibits give visitors a better understanding of the legacy of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the collection of items left at The Wall.
