The Lewisville Morning Rotary Club applies for matching DDF Grant Funds for the 2022 Dictionary Project
In time for the District 5790 deadline, the Foundation Committee has submitted for matching funds for this $3,653 project, that when approved will be funded by $1075 in District Designated Funds and $2,578 in club project funds. The Club Project Fund is supported through our fundraisers such as Lewisville Area Flags and Western Days parking.
While some might suggest that Paper Dictionaries are old technology, educators in the Lewisville ISD note that students at several campuses in Lewisville ISD are English Language Learners who come from high poverty homes. Many of those students do not have home access to WiFi technology to assist them in their educational endeavors. The "good old fashioned" Webster's Student dictionary is still the best teaching tool for all students. When the dictionaries are received, Club members will label all dictionaries, and deliver to the 3rd graders in their classes. The club will stress to 3rd graders about the importance of literacy for college and career readiness. Approximately 984 LISD students in 11 elementary school campuses will receive dictionaries.
