Memorial Day is our 1st "Flag Program"Holiday of the year. As of today we have almost 100 new flag subscriptions. Many kudos' to Brent Myers and Bob Shell who have been busting their backsides to get the sleeves installed for these new flag locations.
Renewals of flag subscriptions are lagging behind with over 70 residents that have yet to renew their subscriptions. It is not to late for them. If they miss their Memorial Day flag, they can always renew at a prorated rate.
Please talk to your neighbors and friends in Lewisville (including Castle Hills), Flower Mound and Highland Village. If they have not renewed, encourage them to do so. If they have not subscribed before, encourage them to take a prorated subscription.On-line registration is always available on our website.

Almost 200 million days of school attendance are lost every year because of the lack of proper sanitation. Many diarrhea cases in children result from transmission of disease in schools rather than at home.
“A school is a place where children should feel safe, not a place where they are susceptible to infection,” says Lizette Burgers, senior adviser of UNICEF’s Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in Schools program
But the message at the World Water Summit on 4 June in São Paulo was positive: Rotary members and their clubs can make schools healthier places through programs that provide clean...
March 5th Meeting Cancelled
The Lewisville Morning Rotary Club will be canceled due to eminent weather conditions.
March is Water & Sanitation Month
Some members may have noticed that Rotary has modified it's program calendar to include our six areas of focus. Accordingly, March is designated Water & Sanitation Month. Compared to many parts of the world, we here in Texas don't worry much about water & sanitation unless the city announces an irrigation ban. Yet, many third world countries lack the most basic services. Carolyn has told us about her travels to Ghana where the community where she is working requires the women of the community to walk several miles daily for urns fresh water. Our club has financed the purchase of Sand Filters for a community in Guatemala were there is plenty of water but there are no sanitation controls. Children suffer from dysentery and many die before their 5th birthday. Since Rotary has installed water filters in most of the homes, early child death is almost disappeared.

The Weather Outside was Frightful. But the Auction inside was Delightful
Because of the bad weather we only had 30 bidders at our auction. However, the fund raiser was a success. We had over 110 donated items to auction. With the proceeds from the Auction we sponsored the Chalk This Way Scholarship Competition.
Congratulations to the Scholarship winners - 1 Daisy Rosas, 2 Allison Rosenbaum, 3 Sydney Simeone
We will have photo's of these artists and their creations in future additions.
A great big Thank You to the Hebron High School Interact Club for all their assistance in setting up the event. Members Doris Scales, Diana McMillan, Dean Davis, Todd Taylor, Cynthia Jarid, Bob Troyer, Jim Wear, Mary Handley Jones, Frank Hebb, Carolyn Wright, John & Marilyn Pokorny were instrumental in preparing the Wednesday before and the day of the event. Thank You to All
Thanks also to the Lewisville Noon Club for their assistance Saturday and financial participation in Sponsoring the Scholarship. Our sponsorship included a giant chalk Rotary Gear with the Club Names on the City Hall corner of Charles and Church. Unfortunately, the wheel was just finished and immediately washed away by the torrential downpour that morning.
All in all it was a wonderful day. Thank You to Chair Person Marilyn Pokorny and all the ladies of our club for organizing this wonderful event.
Congratulations also to Christi Martin, Chairman of Chalk This Way for a wonderful event. It truly was a Community event that we in Rotary were proud to participate along with the Lewisville Area Arts Alliance and the City of Lewisville.
Melissa Troyer Rowe will be running in the GE Irving Marathon on April 4, 2015. She will be doing the Marathon while pushing her mother (a polio victim) in a buggy. She is doing this to raisemoney and awareness for the eradication of polio! She has watched her mom's body be wracked by Post Polio Syndrome and would love to see this disease ended. Coincidentally when she pushes her mom's buggy in the marathon Melissa will be the same age her mom was when she first had to use a wheelchair. Please donate if you can!"
Please support Melissa in this race to End Polio Now by clickinghere.
Central ES has some great volunteer opportunities for Rotarians.
Scholar Saturdays
Committed teachers and volunteers welcomed third, fourth, and fifth grade students who showed up ready to learn. Scholar Saturdays will take place in February and throughout most of March and April from 8am to 11am. Interested volunteers should contact Dr, Jaird.
Sense & Nonsense
We don't serve rope in this bar...
A small piece of rope climbed onto a barstool.
The bartender said he did not serve rope in his bar, and tossed it out to the street.
The rope asked a passerby to tie him into a knot, and then ruffle both ends.
The rope went back into the bar, the bartender looked down at him and said, "Hey aren’t you that same piece of rope I just tossed out?"
The rope responded: "No sir, I am a frayed knot.”
This story reminded the bulletin editors of our good friend and former Lewisville Morning Rotarian, Bill Barber. This is just the kind of story he enjoyed telling us. By-the way, we saw Bill and his wife at Whole Foods a couple of nights ago. He looks great! His therapy is going well. We are hopeful of seeing him at one of our meetings.
