Congratulations to member John Pokorny, recipient of Paul Harris Fellow plus 5 Award
Mr. Pokorny, a member of Lewisville Morning Rotary since 2007 was recognized at our Nov. 1st meeting with a Paul Harris plus 5 pin. The Rotary Foundation awards individuals that have received at least 6000 recognition points.
He is passionate about the work of The Rotary Foundation and has worked with the clubs Foundation Committee to acquire matching funds for club projects like the Dictionary Project, the TEACH Global Grant project in India and is currently working to obtain partner and matching global grant funds for a Dental Clinic in Costa Rica. According to John, I have witnessed 1st hand how carefully Rotary manages its donated funds.
Recognition points are recorded for each dollar donated to The Rotary Foundation. The recognition points are awarded to the person or organization making the donation. Those recognition points can be transferred to another individual who has yet to achieve Paul Harris Fellow Status.
According to Mr. Pokorny, his 1st Paul Harris Fellow award was achieved when he donated $500 to The Rotary Foundation and his donation was matched with 500 club recognition points when he was a member of the Lewisville Noon RC in 2002.  Since that time, he has been inspired to make additional donations exceeding $5000 the past 16 years. He recently joined the Paul Harris Society by committing to annual TRF donations of at least $1000.
Having served as the Lewisville Morning Rotary's Foundation Chair since 2012, it is his hope that even more members will be inspired to join the Paul Harris Society. Our membership has a long history of being a 100% Sustaining Member club and we have achieved 100% Paul Harris Society Status in 2013 and 2015, It would be wonderful if at least 20% of our membership were Paul Harris Society Members. The additional $5000 in club donations annually could do so much to make our world a better place weather it is dictionaries in Lewisville or Dental Clinics in Costa Rica.
