Recently, one of our members, Mark Smith, had the opportunity to accompany other members of District 5790 Rotary Clubs to Costa Rica to participate on a Rotary global grant project centered on establishing an Autism center in Costa Rica ( A Center for Kids with Autism in Costa Rica ). The trip consisted of members from four local clubs. The project is coordinated through a local rotary club in Costa Rica.
The Center offers professional therapies to children and families of children with autism in Costa Rica. The national hospitals, including the CR Children's Hospital and PANI (National Child Welfare Agency) refer families to this autism center for support. Currently there are 65 children enrolled at the center. |
In addition to Lewisville Morning Rotary, members from the Denton Noon club, Fort Worth - South club, and Burleson club assisted the local Cartago Rotary Club in painting rooms within the Autism Center, setting up computers, tablets and other electronics, and installed special flooring in the sensory treatment room. The week-long trip had many great experiences. |
We were fortunate to attend a news conference. It was about important changes in a project sponsored by the Rotary Foundation. |
