Historically, Americans began celebrating George Washington’s Birthday just months after his death, long before Congress declared it a federal holiday. It was not until 1879, under President Rutherford B. Hayes, that Washington’s Birthday became a legal holiday, to be observed on his birthday, February 22.
Washington’s birthday was celebrated on February 22 until well into the 20th century. In 1968, Congress passed the Monday Holiday Law to “provide uniform annual observances of certain legal public holidays on Mondays.” By creating more 3-day weekends, Congress hoped to “bring substantial benefits to both the spiritual and economic life of the Nation.”

This is a recent photo of the troop. They will be participating in a campout this Friday through Monday. So, our flags will be deployed staring Wednesday Feb 16th and will finish the Presidents Day Deployment by late Thursday evening (Feb 17). They plan to pick-up the flags the following weekend (Feb 26 & Feb 27).

The Lewisville Morning Rotary Club meets in person 7:30 AM on 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month at the Lewisville Area Chamber of Commerce (pictured above). Guests are always welcome. Come meet our members and learn about our Rotary projects. We have a great speaker at the Feb 17 meeting. Sandy Huffman, President of Love for Kids will be speaking on providing support for our youth, the young at heart and their families.
