Memorial Day 2020
Lewisville Area Flags News
Remembering our fallen Warriors

Traditionally, on Memorial day some families visit cemeteries and memorials, and volunteers often place American flags on each grave site at national cemeteries. See related story about our partner boy scout troop flag deployment below.

A federal holiday, Memorial Day is intended for honoring and mourning the military personnel who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. However, Covid 19 has put a crimp in some of the normal parades and grave side observances.

So, it is with great pride that our subscribers can display their flags this memorial day.

This year we will keep our curbside flags in place until after flag day not only in honor or those that have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom but also in honor of those that have placed themselves in harms way in the battle against Covid 19. If you need your flag to come down sooner, please email us at flags@lewisvilleareaflags.com and we will arrange for Boy Scout Troop 9168 to remove your flag and return it to storage.

We are doing this because we recognize that our country, especially in times of challenge, is very patriotic and we want to make sure that everyone has a chance to show it.

The Lewisville Area Flags subscription program provides needed funding for many local organizations, including LISD Schools, The Salvation Army, Education Foundations, Christian Community Action, Masks Against 19, and many other local and global causes. It should also be pointed out that a share of the proceeds goes to our partners at Boy Scout Troop 9168 who use the funds for the scouts year round camping costs, but primarily their summer camp fees.

Thank you for being a valued subscriber to our program. We not only hope that you will continue to be a part of our flag program, but that you will also help us promote the program so that we can continue to help our local and global community.
Boy Scout Troop 9168 honors vets at Lewisville's Old Hall Cemetery with flags at grave sites
Billed as "Another Flag Deployment of a different type", our partner scout troop placed flags at the grave sites of veterans from VFW Post 9168. Boy Scout Troop 9168 is sponsored by VFW Post 9168. The morning events concluded with a socially distanced memorial at the grave site of VFW Post 9168 founder Johnnie Bulen.
Traditions for honoring our fallen veterans
The Pioneer Journal tells us "a coin left on a headstone or at the grave site is meant as a message to the deceased soldier's family that someone else has visited the grave to pay respect. ... A nickel indicates that you and the deceased trained at boot camp together, while a dime means you served with him in some capacity."

Our Hero's of Covid 19 Special Flag Launch

All our 2019-2020 Fiscal Year Flag subscribers (both Tier I and Tier II) received their flags earlier this month. We intend to leave flags displayed through both Memorial Day and Flag Day. Our scouting partners will start removing the flags on or about June 15th and and take them to our storage facility.
